“This world is a veil, and the face you wear is not your own.”- Nic Pizzolatto
Despite all of our society’s technological and scientific advancements, there still remain a few genuine mysteries. Death is one of these mysteries, and continues to elude our ability to fully map, quantify or even explain what it is in cogent terms. For all intents and purpose, we seem to know nothing about the mechanics of reincarnation, the human soul, and the afterlife, a stunning revelation considering that we’ve landed on the moon, mapped the human genome, and figured out how to communicate via invisible waves in the air, which we now call “wireless internet”.
We have made tremendous progress as a species, and yet the very nature of our own soul— and what happens to it after death— continues to elude us.
21 grams
Scientist Duncan MacDougall attempted to demystify what happens to the human soul after death in his famous 1907 “21 grams experiment”. The executive summary? Duncan concluded that the human soul weighs 21 grams, weighing the subject study participants’ bodies before and after the moment of death, and finding this consistent number pop up across the board.
In the decades since, his work has been attacked— but never disproven. And no one else has ever attempted to explore this territory, leaving near-death experiences and other notable phenomena largely unexplored, relegated to the shadowy realm of witch doctors and seances.
In the absence of scientific rigor, spiritual systems can offer various explanations for what happens to us after death (and before birth). The Buddhists, Jains and Hindus believe in various forms of reincarnation, all of which hinge on the concept of karma: the sum of a person's actions in this and previous states of existence, ultimately deciding their fate in future existences.
Other faith systems, from Judaism to Christianity to Islam and yes, even paganism, take a different approach, focusing on the concept of a more final destination. The Vikings were told their soul could go to Valhalla if they died honorably in battle, and this was their highest possible honor…and best possible version of heaven.
In our modern, social media-soaked world, both ancient and new age concepts related to death, reincarnation, and the nature of the human soul are filling the void left by the scientific community and out-of-vogue spiritual beliefs…but not always in a cogent or meaningful way.
And while words like: old soul, starseed, walk-in, indigo child and more are peppering this new age dialogue on Youtube and Instagram, real insights (with real answers) remain largely elusive.
The profit motives of false prophets
And, as per usual, there’s a lot of misinformation alongside actual existential truth.
This is a topic that has garnered more than its fair share of con artists: frauds emerging to claim they are Pleiadean or Lyrian starseeds or the biblical Enoch reincarnated and offering courses for $333 so that you, too, can “ascend”.
They offer source codes and genetic activation codes and the channeling of extraterrestrial beings…all for large sums of money, YouTube super-chat donations, and registration fees for upcoming “galactic” retreats.
The portal, according to these false prophets, always seems to be opening…
…and yet, here we remain, feet on terra firma and undeniably human.
I wonder if I need to refresh my spiritual browser or something?
Sarcasm and scam artists aside, this is a worthy question to explore. As humans having a human experience, how can we put the mysteries of death and the human soul into a meaningful context? Align our life’s purpose with a broader spiritual tapestry? Understand how such spiritual mechanisms can impact us?
In other words: “What is the meaning of life? What happens to us when we die?”
How can we make this make sense? How can we explore this concept freely without falling into the quicksand of internet bullshit and, well, the profit motives of false prophets?
Scorpio Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse
In this Scorpio Full Moon Deep Dive, we’re going to jump into the deep end of the shamanic pool, digging into the nature of the human soul, cycles of rebirth, past and future (and parallel) lives, and what the afterlife just might look like. Scorpio is the sign of death, the afterlife, and resurrection, and this Full Moon is also a Lunar Eclipse- indicating it’s a bit more supercharged than other lunar events.
In this post, I’m going to explore the definitions of words like starseed and walk-in, and share relevant stories and snapshots from TOTEM clients and collaborators that are experiencing massive past life revelations and soul purpose insights.
I share how to do a TOTEM Past Life Reading and what crystals to use for this work, as well as inside tips and tricks- including a (sort of) secret sale on the TOTEM Tarot Deck to help you facilitate your archetypal, past life connections.
In my experience across thousands of clients and readings, I think the special souls that came here to organize around a crucial cause are actually getting quietly activated right now, indicating a broader, connected narrative to our individual awakenings.
It’s a really exciting time, and this coming Scorpio Full Moon Lunar Eclipse is going present an exciting opportunity to explore and operationalize these metaphysical insights.
This kind of spiritual work is genuinely beautiful. It’s also pretty hard and personally challenging. It’s what we focus on in our TOTEM Spiritual Transformation Coaching Program: aligning individuals with their life’s purpose and soul contracts via radical levels of spiritual self-awareness and, most importantly, innate self-acceptance.
This is the ultimate spiritual adventure: who you are at a soul level.
And, like most great adventures, this one starts with a dream.
