The Wood Snake Year is certainly living up to its trickster reputation, churning out news headlines that read like some kind of jarring Andy Kaufman performance art. Like, the news cycle is quite literally beyond parody. And, while this has been disorienting and chaotic, it’s also presenting us with a unique opportunity to alchemize the discomfort and, quite literally, make it into fun.
I mean, we laugh so we don’t cry, right?
Right.
So, if you’re interested in laughing and enjoying some incredible comedic performance art, you’re welcome to join us here at our TOTEM work/ live space on Sunday, June 1st to take in comedian Robbie Bernstein’s Summer Porch Tour— details and tickets can be found on Eventbrite below:
Not only is Robbie a successful, touring comedian and the host of the Run Your Mouth podcast, he is also one half of the duo (along with comedian Dave Smith) that brings us the Part of the Problem podcast. They’re funny, and so are their friends— and we had a GREAT time with the crew last year!
According to Robbie, this summer’s porch tour show in Austin will be even better:
“This is one of the most stacked shows of the entire run. I have all new material from last year and this show will be stacked with some of Austin's funniest comics. The host can also tell you your future and might just have the potion you've been looking for. Show up for more info on that one. There's potential for other Liberty figures and special guests.
No parking fees. No bar prices. Roll up with your coolers and hang. EVENT IS BYOB.”
Love the shout out…though I won’t be pulling any cards or reading any fortunes that night. I mean, I’ll be drinking a little bit of tequila and whatnot;)
If you are attending, please secure your tickets via Eventbrite (link above) and prepare to bring your own chair and your own beverage(s) (and bug spray).
And if you’re a client visiting from out of town, shoot me an email so we can coordinate some other fun on the Friday and Saturday before the big show on Sunday: rachel@totemreadings.com. BUT please know that, because we’re hosting this event on Sunday, we won’t have our usual bandwidth to offer up our guest rooms. I know, it’s very sad. But the silver lining is that Austin is very inexpensive during this time of the year, and there are lots of great, reasonably-priced hotels!
I hope to see you all here…and if enough of you come to visit and reach out to me, I may just purchase some group tickets to see comedy at the Comedy Mothership on Friday or Saturday, and possibly organize some other fun events over the weekend, too!
Remember: laughter really is the best medicine, and there is a long shamanic tradition of sacred clowns. So, if nothing else, just take a moment to laugh at something silly or stupid today!
