“Public violence is social technology.” -Walter Kirn

Public violence is social technology.

But, in my strange and shamanic opinion, public violence is also ritual magic.

And, well, from the time I started writing this post on the heels of the Minneapolis deaths and protests to this weekend’s feeding frenzy of all things Epstein across social media, I think it’s safe to say that this precise theme has officially punctured the mainstream membrane and made its way into the zeitgeist.

But, as prescient as I may have been in framing out this post ahead of current events, I must admit: I never had Nicky Minaj tweeting about demon worship and human sacrifice in the music industry the morning after the Grammy’s on my bingo card…so I guess I’m not that psychic after all!

So, now that you’re all in my f*cked up world (at least for the moment) staring through the proverbial looking glass into all manner of dark and sordid and possibly occult-adjacent stuff, I thought we could take a moment to actually dig into what public violence, ritual magic, and blood sacrifice really are in technical, metaphysical terms— as well as how they work from a functional perspective.

To this end, this Virgo Full Moon Deep Dive is going to explore the mechanics of thaumaturgy, conjuring, translocation, transubstantiation and adorcism, breaking all of this dark-sided Woo stuff down into simple and human-scaled language, empowering you to recognize these techniques when you encounter them out in the wild.

After all: with all of our advances in technology, such occult practices are now broadcast around the globe— and onto the screen in your hand— amplifying the proverbial spell’s potency to exponential proportions, all while draining you of your vital life force.

This vital life force that gets drained through such metaphysical practices is called “loosh”: a term originally coined by Robert Monroe that describes the intense, lower vibrational and negative emotional energy generated by us humans that is then harvested or consumed by non-physical negative entities.

This loosh is released— presumably creating an energetic feeding frenzy— when we unsuspecting civilians experience traumatic, fear- and despair-inducing public violence, particularly when that violence has elements of blood sacrifice, ritual magic, and calls for you to feel something very, very bad in a very, very intense way.

Such public violence, as seen through the lens of ritual magic, serves as a “frequency-locked containment zone” used by unseen forces to keep humans in a perpetual state of emotional reactivity, ensuring that fresh demon slop is served up in the trough on the daily.

But don’t despair! This Virgo Full Moon Deep Dive includes pragmatic, inherently actionable steps that each of us can operationalize, taking individual accountability for whether or not we’re unwittingly giving up our loosh to the forces of darkness. The upshot? Turns out, loosh is often harvested while we think we’re doing good, taking on the role of keyboard social justice warrior or simply being empathetic to the point of “compassion fatigue”.

Not only will guarding your vital life force from bleeding out when you get triggered by the violent, often bloody occult ritual magic that you see on the news or in social media make you healthier, happier, and more present for your actual loved ones in your actual life, it will also help to choke off a crucial resource for the forces of darkness: their food.

Said another way? Sometimes, fighting the armies of evil looks a lot like minding your own business— all while the world, you are told, is screaming and burning with injustice all around you. In this dynamic, the pressure to emote, to feel, to get involved and, yes, to perform a public loosh-releasing ritual in kind is undeniably strong.

But the uncomfortable truth is that doing actual good for the forces of good looks nothing like society would like you to believe, and it takes more discipline than you’d think to hold the line and resist the urge to go along with the herd. But, to understand this, you must take your first steps into the dark side of theological literacy: understanding the mechanics of the ritual magic that underpin the global trauma economy— and, more likely than not, your own malaise.
